If you’re following me on insta, you would see that my hair is always either silver or different shades of blonde. Having light hair is a lot of work especially when it’s not your natural color (mine is dark brown) because you need constant touch ups and products to help your hair to remain blonde and keep it damage free. It seems like a lot of products but it’s honestly not. I love my hair so much so I will invest a lot of time and money into it and as you can see… it is soo worth it! All links are on the bottom or you can shop my faves on my homepage via Shopr and Amazon 🙂
My cousin and bestie is a hairstylist and colorist so she did all of this for me. So this August, I had ash blonde hair with dark roots. We bleached my roots and then bleached the rest of my hair to get platinum blonde hair. It was really light and the lightest it ever been. Eventually, the brassiness came back and that is when I decided to tone my hair. Lana used a silver violet toner to counteract the brassiness and that is how my hair turned out to be silver! I love that it also has a violet component to it so in some lighting, the violet really shows and is pretty. Dr Ballantyne Gold Coast can also help you in availing all kind of hair care treatment.
It’s seriously the holy grail of being blonde! Overtime through washing, your color will fade out and your nice bleached blonde will soon have that ugly brassy yellow color and that does not look well with overgrown dark roots. Purple shampoo cleanses the hair while neutralizing the yellow tones so it maintains the light hair. I used so many brands in my lifetime including Joico, Matrix, and Pravana’s The Perfect Blonde but the absolute best in my opinion is Fanola’s No Yellow Shampoo. This shampoo is really purple and I see results immediately after one shampoo. I love that it removes the yellow in my hair and gives it a nice metallic purple touch (depends on how much you use and how light your hair is) Warning: since it’s really purple, wear gloves because it will stain your nails and cuticles… I learned the hard way when I had white nails LOL and be careful on your face because it might stain your forehead as well. I left this in my hair for 5-10 minutes before doing my regular hair routine. Always shampoo & condition after and never replace this as an actual shampoo because it really left my hair dry when I washed it out. I use this once or twice a week. TIP: If you have extensions, please don’t leave it on as long as your real hair.. it soaks up the color fast!
Celeb Luxury Silver Shampoo & Conditioner
In addition to purple shampoo, there’s a color shampoo that turns your hair silver with multiple uses. This keeps my silver silver until my roots come in and then I have to actually get a touch it. It does a great job at keeping my hair silver and works well like a purple shampoo to neutralize the brassiness. I got it at a beauty and cosmetic store but you can also find it on Amazon. They also have blue, pink, and purple shampoo so you can have colored streaks in your hair if you like! You can follow celeb luxury on instagram to see more before and after pics!
When my hair was first damaged, I did a lot of research on how to treat my hair and a lot of the information I found were hair masks. I learned that coconut oil and olive oil were both good for your hair and also very easy to do since it was in my kitchen anyways. I would soak my hair in olive oil, wrap it with plastic wrap, and then put a cap over it. I didn’t need to wrap it with the coconut oil because it doesn’t run like the olive oil. I would leave the olive oil in for about 3 hours but coconut oil over night. I recently been gifted hair vitamins by Bali secret and it had been doing a wonderful job of conditioning my hair. It’s not really a vitamin you take by mouth but you would open it and apply to towel-dried hair. I usually do this at night and then wake up with very soft and shiny hair. I did this 3-5x a week. Another product I been loving is Brigeo’s hair mask that I got from Sephora. After shampooing, apply to hair for 10 minutes, wash out, and follow up with conditioner. I would alternate this with the hair vitamin.
Sulfate-free Shampoo and Conditioner
ALWAYS look for sulfate free on all hair products, especially shampoo and conditioner or else you will be sorry. From what I learned and heard about sulfate, it is damaging to the hair and strips your hair from color. If you are a blonde, your hair will turn brassy orange real quick. I use Wella, Nexxus, and Ouai. Wella is salon recommended and is made for color treated hair and perfect for everyday use. Nexxus is a repair shampoo for damaged hair, which is perfect for bleached hair, and contains keratin which is an important protein to the growth of hair. Ouai is on the pricer side and smaller than Nexxus but also contains keratin and smells really good.
I recommend to stay away from using a lot of heat products (flat irons, curlers, blow dryers) because it can drastically damage your hair but when you do have to use a heating product, ALWAYS PROTECT YOUR HAIR BEFORE USING ANY HEATING PRODUCT! If your hair is already damaged, you really need to spray your hair before using a blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, etc. My all-time favorite hair product has to be this blow dry spray by Kenra. It greatly shortens your drying time and leaves your hair soft and silky while protecting your hair. In addition, I use Tresemme’s heat protectant before curling my hair.
Lastly, especially with extensions, I try not to wash my hair everyday. I probably wash it twice a week. Dry shampoos are a must and keep my hair nice and clean during washes. I also found that baby powder does an amazing job of soaking up that excess oil! My favorite is a drugstore fave by Batisse.
If you were looking to go light, please do some research and invest in products to maintain your color and keep it free from damage.
